A 9-year-old boy in France has died after accidentally shooting himself at home, according to local authorities.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon in the village of Pleucadeuc, located in the Morbihan department of northwestern France.

Police say the child found a firearm inside the family home and unintentionally discharged it. Emergency services were called immediately, but despite rapid medical response, the boy could not be saved.

Local officials confirmed that no one else was present in the room at the time of the incident. Authorities are treating the case as a tragic accident.

Residents of the small community have expressed deep shock and sympathy for the family. Local officials described the incident as “an unimaginable tragedy.”
