Dangerous Wind Chills Continue Across Montana’s Hi-Line
Cold air remains in place across northeastern Montana this morning, with dangerously low wind chills prompting continued Cold Advisories along the Hi-Line.
However, forecasters say relief is on the way, with temperatures expected to moderate by Tuesday before another round of light snow chances later in the week
Wind Chills as Low as –30°F This Morning
The National Weather Service reports that Arctic air and persistent northwest flow are keeping conditions extremely cold across the region. Wind chills along the Hi-Line are dropping to 30 degrees below zero, creating hazardous conditions for anyone outdoors.
A Cold Advisory remains in effect through this morning for communities including:
- Glasgow
- Havre
- Malta
- Wolf Point
Residents are urged to limit exposure, cover exposed skin, and use extreme caution when traveling in rural areas.
Warmer, More Seasonable Temperatures by Tuesday
A shortwave disturbance moving through the northwesterly flow will help generate an Alberta clipper later today. As the system dives south tonight into Tuesday, a warm front and downslope winds will deliver a noticeable warming trend.
Forecasters are confident that temperatures will rise to more seasonable levels on Tuesday, offering a brief break from the intense cold.
Light Snow Possible Tuesday and Late Week
While snowfall amounts look limited, there are increasing chances for light snow in two main windows:
Tuesday
- The clipper system may produce spotty light snow, with slightly higher chances in upslope regions of southern Montana.
- Accumulation should remain minimal.
Friday into Saturday
- Another clipper, paired with an incoming Arctic high, may bring additional light snow to parts of the region.
- Precipitation type and amounts remain low to moderate confidence at this time.
